Ghost Bay, Amed, North-eastern Bali
Beautiful Diving for Beginners
Ghost bay is another highly rated dive site in Amed that is perfect for those with an interest in photography. Ghost Bay is a manmade reef that is home to some of Bali’s rarest ocean creatures, although they can be a challenge to spot, like clown frogfish, ghost pipe fish, leaf fish, boxer shrimps, small crabs, lionfish, razorfish, and many more. With a maximum depth of 40 m, and protected from currents, this dive is suitable for beginners.
Access to the beach is about 100m from the small Amed Dive Centre. On your stroll to Ghost Bay, you’ll discover some interesting concrete sculptures.
Unfortunately, some of the underwater coral is made from concrete due to a mix-up in the 1980s when too much coral was taken from the reef to use as concrete, which was then replaced by concrete in its wake. A sad case of misunderstanding the implications of environmental impact, but the marine diversity is worth the visit.
