When is the Best Time to Visit Bali?
Bali is an adventurous, luxurious, and exciting place to visit year-round! Depending on what you decide to do with your time, there will be different times of the year that suit your Bali adventure. While Bali is generally perennially warm and sunny, Bali typically receives the most visitors during July and August, due to there being less chance of rain, as well as Australian school holidays. And, if you fancy an exotic and thrilling Christmas and New Year’s, Bali is the ultimate hotspot over December and January with countless festivals and celebrations to see the new year in. Follow our adventures as we explore the best times for you to visit Bali.
Temperature in Bali
Chasing Summer? Head to Bali! Winter Blues don’t exist in Bali. With a consistently warm and tropical climate, Bali averages enjoyable temperatures between 20-33°C year-round. Whether you’re craving a day in the sun, a hike in the rainforest, an epic surf, or a spectacular dive, Bali will deliver the perfect temp. The sea stays warm all year with an average temperature of 27-29°C. There are wet and dry seasons to watch out for so keep reading, depending on the holiday you’re chasing.
Best Time to Visit Ubud
The central mountains, Ubud, and higher regions are typically cooler than the lower coastal areas. The best time to visit Ubud is from May to September, when the weather is warm and dry. Due to the ideal weather and consequent influx of tourists, it is worth noting that it is slightly more expensive to travel to Bali in the dry season. If you’re stuck on what to wear in Bali during the dry season, we’ve got you covered.
Best Time for Surfing
Bali’s dry season (May to September) is ideal for surfing! Like the sun, the surf parades its glory all throughout the year in Bali. The wet season usually sees bigger and better swell, and yet, the dry season provides cleaner, more consistent waves – so it depends on your surfing style. You’ll also have a better chance of catching a ride in the wet season, as there are fewer surfers to contend with. The wet season is typically hotter and more humid than the dry season, so you’ll love the reprieve of the ocean. Nusa Dua is best during the wet season.
Best Time for Less Tourists
Bali’s weather between October and April typically comprises heavy, yet very short, rain showers (usually at night). During October to April, also known as wet season, the humidity is higher and the days are still sunny, so you can laze by the pool or recline on the beach and bask in the revitalising Vitamin D. Less tourist-ridden than the dry season, Bali is typically quieter and more subdued around this time of year, so you have more of the beach, rainforest, shops, and bars to yourself. Peace, quiet, shorter queues, and less traffic – all in paradise under brief sprinkles of rain showers? That’s what I’m talking about.
Best Time for Basking in Sunshine
If basking in the sun all day, every day is your top priority when visiting Bali, you may want to travel between June and September. Being Bali’s dry season, the chance of rain is extremely low so you’re free to sip cocktails by the beach all day long. Bali’s dry (and most popular) season occurs between May and September with low humidity and hardly any rainfall. The average temperature during this time is still a warm 27°C – perfect beach weather! Evenings can be a little cooler and there is usually a refreshing breeze during the day however it’s rare for the temperature to drop lower than mid-low 20s.
Best Time for Snorkelling, Diving, or Hiking in Bali
The dry season (May to November) is best for diving and snorkelling. Although Bali is home to some of the world’s most captivating snorkelling year-round, the ocean is slightly cleaner throughout the dry season, making the coral reefs even more magnificent. These months are also an ideal time to travel if you are planning on climbing the mountains of Bromo or Ijen, for example. The dry weather makes the enchanting walking tracks easier to hike! Whatever your desire, Bali gifts locals and tourists with endless authentic, unique, and thrilling experiences all throughout the year.
Best Time for Waterfalls
If it’s waterfalls you’re chasing, then January and February are the best months to travel to Bali. Due to heavy rain in these tropical months, you’ll enjoy seeing the waterfalls flowing at full speed, as you trek nearby or simply float in fresh rainwater beneath them. We recommend travelling with an experienced guide for your safety.
